As part of our first social studies unit, we are taking part in a colonization simulation. Each group has selected a name, decided upon a reason for colonizing, designed a flag to symbolize their priorities, and elected leaders. After this, groups set sail and will (hopefully) land and establish a new colony. Once in their area, the students will need to farm, hunt, and fish to provide food for their settlement. They will also have to learn how to live alongside the natives and other organized colonies, and if necessary, defend themselves.

The "colonists" have begun to keep blogs about their adventures. Read all about the trials and tribulations of sailing to and settling a new land.
